Employee Spotlight — Abby Burnett

At Indiana Eye Clinic, Abby Burnett finds herself “learning something new every day.”

Abby’s part-time position as an ophthalmic technician is an extension of her education at Marian University. In fact, when IEC representatives spoke at her honor society chapter, Sigma Zeta, she felt like the clinic would provide precisely the kind of hands-on experience with patient care that she was looking for before applying to medical school.

Abby is one of six Marian University students working at IEC who full-time staff members affectionately call “the kids.”

“They are like an extra set of parents who are constantly looking out for us,” Abby said. “They bring us food and make sure we’re not overly stressed from school. And even though we’re younger, we often find ourselves bonding over the same music and the same reasons we’re passionate about patient care.”

Abby has been part of the IEC family for almost two years now. As an ophthalmic technician, she gathers patients’ medical histories, walks them through procedures and conducts vision and diagnostic tests to detect eye conditions.

Not only has she gained great experience, but she also stands to receive credits toward graduating from Marian University as well. (She is currently in her senior year.)

At school, Abby enjoys attending and professionally filming sporting events. She’s also a hardcore concertgoer.

Abby is always happy to return to a warm, welcoming workplace in which she can carve out her career path.
