Diabetic Eye Care
Diabetes produces many complications, including damage to the blood vessels in the retina. That can cause vision loss or even blindness. Consequently, diabetic patients need to have regular medical eye exams so we can diagnose diabetic retinopathy before damage can occur. In addition to our usual comprehensive examination of the eye, we use sophisticated imaging technologies such as optical coherence tomography to detect the very earliest changes from diabetes. We will communicate our findings to your other healthcare providers so they can use that information for the management of your disease.
When present, diabetic retinopathy can be treated with a combination of injections, laser surgery and in some cases more advanced procedures such as “vitrectomy.” In those situations, we will refer you to, and work closely with, one of the area’s best retinal specialists.
Our mission is to utilize the most advanced technology, latest therapeutic advances and surgical innovations to help us diagnose and treat your diabetic retinopathy. Utilizing sophisticated imaging of your retina such as spectral domain optical coherence tomography, we will create a customized treatment plan to combat your disease. Should you be a candidate for an investigational treatment, rest assured that we work closely with the region’s best tertiary care specialists and will assist you in coordinating entry into an appropriate study.
